http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290380231385&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I have a CD-R bootleg of the same name with an identical track listing. The "On A Friday" songs sound like a typical bootleg recording. There is nothing offical about them.

The seller claims to have bought this from a DJ in the US. He has not provided sound samples despite my requests. Here is what the seller told me about the origin and sound quality -

"Hi:

Please,
The quality of the SOUND of the CD is EXCELLENT. These CD' s (this and the previous one, they were acquired in the United States, some years ago and they were sold directly by a Dj) We do not know that they circulate in the market copies. This is an ORIGINAL one and the sound is PERFECT, CLEAN.

If you have doubts, we ask him that buy not, never we will accept a REFUND of the article. This knows it all EBAY. These messages remain engravings and we do not sell CD' s pirated or bootlegs.

I expect that understand this and we desire that finally you have very clear all.

Merry Christmas!

Miguel"

I would absolutely LOVE to get this if it is legit. But I suspect it is a bootleg because the tracklisting is identical to the CD-R that I obtained years ago. If I could get an audio sample from the seller then I could compare my CD-R to this "Promo".

Anybody have any thoughts on this one?

I would think that if it is not listen in this site then its a bootleg.
Too bad someone already bought a copy of this from the same seller for $492.

Out of Topic
The only good thing is that through this I found out that this KCRW Coldplay cd (that ended from the same seller) worths a lot of money so I might list it soon Wink

Sold-295 Euros- suprise to another buyer in Spain, the same person who purchased the original CD a few weeks ago.In fact this person has 31 feedback - all from the same seller- no one else.Thats not at all suspicious! wait a few weeks- I suspect it will pop up again!

These guys should be reported on ebay!

I bought this awhile ago from another seller. After some googling, I discovered he had been a former capitol records employee of considerable rank, which made me all the more confident about the item. However, upon receipt of the cd, the poor sound quality on the majority of the tracks really put the legitimacy of it in doubt. It may well be a legitimate acetate, but with such poor quality audio it's not surprising it's never been released. I ended up returning it.

Hex, I understand the comment on acetates- but some are really good- take the Abbey Road Acetates- I rate them as much as any of the top 10 standard releases.

I'm glad that I did not bid on this CD. As for acetates, I have no problem with them. If they contain live material I like to confirm their authenticity by listening to sound quality. By the way, I am still looking for the Jazz Fest and Earl's Court acetates (originals or copies)!!!

I agree. It's even arguable that the authenticity of acetates involves no more risk than the authenticity of cds sold as official. Afterall, a smaller collector's market for acetates means there's less incentive for counterfeiters to go that route, concentrating their efforts instead on officially released cds. A notable example is the high quality counterfeit versions of The Bends Live EP http://www.rhdiscog.com/d/158

Many of what I consider to be the most exciting items, due to their exclusive content, are acetates, i.e.

http://www.rhdiscog.com/d/473
http://www.rhdiscog.com/d/397
http://www.rhdiscog.com/d/428

What's interesting now is that with the 2 disc + dvd reissues of the albums, the BBC Sessions content, previously only available on BBC acetates, is now available on official releases!

While on the topic, I should share what I've learned about one of the most hyped "acetates" out there: http://www.rhdiscog.com/d/391

It's completely fake, the audio of the whole cd is obviously sourced from poor quality mp3, there's no need to put it through a frequency analysis to double check. It was also burned poorly, with periodic bits of static during playback, especially on the outer portion of the disc. Clearly, this is a disappointment, but in another sense it's gratifying to know definitively about the authenticity. Also, I don't blame the seller. I received a number of rare and legitimate items from the same person. In any case, this should be removed from the discog and added to the fake items list.

It's too bad that the falsity of such a disc has permeated through so many webpages and wikis about Amnesiac! see under Track Listing at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amnesiac
